How to play

  1. Choose three to eight players. Sit in a circle and count clockwise so everyone knows their player number.
  2. Select your group size. Pass the device to Player 1 and let only that person reveal their word.
  3. Hide the word before passing the device. Repeat until every player has seen their word. Nobody is told whether their word is the odd one out.
  4. Starting with Player 1, take turns giving a short clue without saying the secret word itself.
  5. Discuss the clues and agree on a vote. Tap the reveal button after voting to find out which player was undercover and see both words.

What makes a useful clue?

Think about a feature, a setting or an association. For the example pair Beach and Desert, “sand” could fit either word; “waves” is much more specific. Find a balance between sounding convincing and giving the game away.

The challenge is in the conversation. There is no separate host, elimination sequence or automatic vote counter in this demo. The group talks and votes aloud, then checks the reveal together.

Keep the secret off the TV

Undercover is different from the shared-screen games. Use one handheld phone or tablet, turn off screen mirroring and let everyone else look away during a reveal. Hide each word before passing the device.

Play in the same room. This preview does not provide private online rooms, remote joining or one-device-per-player connections.

A short round of friendly suspicion

The demo uses a small set of paired English words and randomly chooses the undercover player. If your vote identifies that player, the group wins; otherwise, the undercover player wins. Start another round to deal again. Word pairs can repeat.

This is a good choice for a seated group that likes debating a suspiciously vague clue. Give new players a practice explanation before the first deal.

Good to know

Does everyone need a phone?

No. This demo uses one device passed privately between all three to eight players.

Can we put the words on a TV?

No. Secret words should stay private. Disconnect screen mirroring and use a handheld device.

Does the undercover player know their role?

Not when the words are dealt. Everyone sees a word without being told whether it differs from the majority word.

Good company. Zero planning.
